Southern California Faces "Particularly Dangerous Situation" Amid Ongoing Wildfires
A "particularly dangerous situation" warning was issued for parts of Southern California on Tuesday morning, with meteorologists alerting the public that high wind gusts, combined with low humidity, are creating "extremely critical fire weather conditions."
Currently, four major wildfires are burning across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. These fires include:
- The Palisades Fire, which has burned 23,713 acres and is 14% contained.
- The Eaton Fire, which has scorched 14,117 acres and is 33% contained.
- The Hurst Fire, which has affected 799 acres and is 97% contained.
- The Auto Fire, which broke out in Ventura County on Monday and has burned 56 acres with 0% containment.
As of now, at least 24 people have lost their lives in the fires, and over a dozen are still missing, with those figures expected to rise.
The destruction has been significant, with over 12,000 structures damaged or destroyed. Approximately 88,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders, as firefighters continue their battle to control the blazes.
